We are seeking a talented and experienced Controls Design Engineer to contribute to our cutting-edge projects in the southeastern U.S. This position offers an exciting opportunity for professionals with a strong background in designing control systems for combustion and process applications.
As a member of our Controls Engineering team, you will collaborate closely with other engineers and project managers to create comprehensive designs that align with our project objectives and sales goals. You will also support our valve assembly department by generating detailed mechanical fabrication drawings for small machined parts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop designs for process control systems utilized in various applications, including boilers, industrial furnaces, kilns, and other combustion-related systems
- Analyze project specifications and documentation to establish essential design criteria, including:
- System power requirements
- System PLC input and output (IO) lists
- Selection of hardware components (PLC hardware, DC power supplies, network switches, and control panel hardware)
- Convert design specifications into precise AutoCAD drawings encompassing:
- Electrical ladder diagrams
- Wiring diagrams for PLC input and output modules
- Detailed layouts for enclosures and subpanels to facilitate effective fabrication and assembly of control panels
- Recommend instrumentation for process controls, such as:
- Pressure Transmitters
- Temperature Transmitters
- Flowmeters
- Control Valves
- Conduct reviews of process systems and occasionally travel for site assessments to support project execution
- Assist in project cost estimation and provide quotes to the sales team
- Offer technical support to the UL508A panel shop and the valve assembly shop
- Contribute to the Factory Acceptance Tests of completed control panels before shipment
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in controls engineering
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred; however, candidates with a two-year technical degree or associate’s degree combined with additional experience are encouraged to apply
- Proven experience in designing process control systems, with combustion experience considered a plus
- Proficiency in generating electrical ladder diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control panel layout designs
- Skilled in producing detailed mechanical fabrication drawings
- Familiarity with AutoCAD software is essential
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with a willingness to learn company-specific software tools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively listen, discuss technical requirements with cross-functional teams, and gather input from various stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment
