Controls Programming Engineer

In this role, you will be responsible for configuring, programming, starting up, and commissioning custom control systems tailored to client specifications. You will play a vital role in troubleshooting and reconfiguring defective setups, performing scheduled maintenance, and providing warranty support. Additionally, you will offer both phone and on-site technical assistance, while also suggesting enhancements and modifications to existing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and program various control systems including boiler and boiler plant control systems (BMS and combustion control), chiller plant control systems, kiln and furnace control systems, batch processes, and SCADA systems.
  • Work with a variety of industrial controllers, including Honeywell HC900, ControlEdge PLC, Honeywell LX Controller, and Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Utilize software applications such as Honeywell Experion HS, RedLion Crimson, and Iconics to ensure effective system performance.
  • Collaborate with various departments to coordinate design and programming activities.
  • Assist in testing control system configurations and validating system performance during factory acceptance tests (FAT).
  • Provide on-site training for customers as needed to ensure proper usage and understanding of the systems.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for system improvements and modifications, working closely with the Project Manager.
  • Contribute to the sales and proposal development process by applying engineering expertise.
  • Handle warranty work efficiently while completing thorough documentation for all assigned tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in controls engineering or a related field is highly desired.
  • Two to four years of undergraduate study or a relevant associate's degree, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to adapt to proprietary software.
  • Experience in tuning control loops to meet specific system requirements.
  • Capability to use Digital Volt/Ohm Meters and transmitter simulators for troubleshooting and testing.
  • Understanding of Ethernet Network Systems and interfacing control systems with these networks.
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix PLCs, as well as Honeywell HC900 is a plus.
  • Experience with HMI and SCADA systems is advantageous, especially with RedLion and Iconics platforms.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, with occasional lifting/moving of up to 70 pounds.
