Controls Engineer

Join a dynamic team as a Controls Engineer in the Concord, NC area, where you will play a crucial role in designing, programming, and commissioning custom control systems tailored to meet specific customer requirements.

In this position, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Configuring and programming advanced control systems for boiler, chiller, kiln, and furnace operations.
  • Implementing and maintaining various process control systems, including batch processes, SCADA, and HMI systems.
  • Collaborating with a variety of industrial hardware, including Honeywell HC900 Controllers, Honeywell ControlEdge PLCs, and Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Utilizing specialized software like Honeywell Experion HS and Redlion Crimson to optimize control system performance.
  • Coordinating design and programming efforts with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Conducting thorough testing of control system configurations and validating system performance during factory acceptance tests (FAT).
  • Providing on-site technical training to customers and addressing technical support inquiries as needed.
  • Identifying opportunities for system enhancements and presenting suggestions to project management.
  • Supporting sales initiatives and assisting in proposal development for new projects.
  • Performing necessary warranty work and ensuring proper documentation of tasks and procedures.

Candidates who are a good fit for this role will possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant work experience in controls engineering or a related field.
  • Two to four years of undergraduate education, with a preference for degrees or certifications in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook, with an ability to pick up new company-specific software quickly.
  • Strong skills in tuning control loops to meet specific system requirements and using digital volt/ohm meters and transmitter simulators effectively.
  • An understanding of Ethernet network systems and the ability to interface control systems with these networks.
  • Experience with PLCs, particularly Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix, in utility or process control applications, with Honeywell HC900 knowledge being a bonus.
  • Familiarity with HMIs and SCADA systems, with preference given to candidates with Redlion or Iconics experience.
  • Ability to lift and/or move items weighing up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 70 pounds occasionally.
